I’m screwed!

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Eh, not what you are thinking! :P

Way too many…
Things to be done…

and Way too little…
Time in hand..

For
the few days (actually since the year started), I barely have time for
myself. Probably I wanted to keep myself busy, change my lifestyle blah
blah blah.. For now, I am coping at the expense of blogging,
blog-hopping and rest/sleep.

I know I greet some of you in YM,
but disappear the next moment. I "drifted to the dreamland" while
talking to a friend last week. And, I just realized I sent few
unrelated sms to my friends last night. That’s a lesson why I should
not attempt to answer calls or reply to sms after I already went to
bed. Sorry guys.

Keeping my fingers crossed, hoping things will get better in days to come.

God, I need my life back!

Mob molestation - where is our dignity?

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Okie, it has been exactly 24 days since the incident happen, and some
of you may find this post like an old newspaper now. I am sure some of
the bloggers have highlighted this. To those who have no idea what I am
talking about (especially to my country people), here is a bit of the
news:

The shocking pictures of
two young women being molested by a mob of 70 to 80 men at Mumbai’s
Juhu area in the early hours of New Year’s Day, has ashamed the city.

The
women, one in a black dress and the other in a jeans and top emerged
from the JW Marriott with two male friends around 1:45 am, and began
walking towards Juhu beach close by.

A mob of about 40 got after
them and began teasing the women when one of the women swore loudly at
the hooligans. But the mob, now 70-80 strong, wouldn’t let go.

They
trapped the women near a vehicle and a tree, and pounced on them. A man
in a white shirt tore off the black dress. Another, in a blue shirt,
led the assault.

As the women fell on the ground, dozens of men jumped on them.

More news here: NDTV , Zeenews

70-80
men vs 2 women + 1 man? Doesn’t sound like a fair fight to me! I just
can’t bring myself to publish the photos of the assault that was taken
by reporters who were at the scene. Just to the news link I gave and
see it yourself.

To add insult to the injury, the Police Commissioner only has this to say?

While
the entire nation saw with horror pictures of the incident in a
national daily, the Mumbai Police Commissioner D N Jadhav said, “Don’t
make a mountain out of a molehill. Keep your wives at home if you want
them safe. These kind of small things can happen anywhere”

I had the link to the video interview with the Commissioner where he state this to the media. Damn.. couldn’t find it now!

"Wise"
people’s advice are meant to headed. So, girls.. stay home after this.
No roaming in streets even with your hubby. No working. Screw women’s
contribution to the economy, our safety comes first. Or how about
chastity belt for women (and girls) whenever they have to go out? We
are going centuries back - we were ’safe’ then!!!

Probably these were in his mind when he gave the interview.

Anyway, just had time to work on 2 wallpapers - one is here and another one in the MIndsblog.
Just a small introduction to the MIndsblog, a weblog especially
dedicated to Malaysian Indians. Derived from the words Malaysian (M),
Indian’s (Inds) and Blog (Blog), the MIndsblog started off with a
mission to gather all Malaysian Indian Bloggers (MIB)
in a common platform. Beside creating a platform for all of us to
mingle around, and contribute to the progress and well-being of our
community at large in the future.

So, who are we? We are a group of Malaysian Indian Bloggers (MIB) who wanted to start this blog ever since we organized Bloggers Buff 2007! That was like 4 months ago and now finally the plan has materialized. Pheww…! The MIndsblog team members are:

Curls and Nostalgic Friday - 29

Thursday, January 10th, 2008
me in light curls

I
had a hair cut yesterday. Not a drastic change, though I cut it layers
and curled it slightly. The curls are temporary bcoz I wasn’t so sure
if it will look fine to fine. The previous temporary curls I did was
horrible. Now testing it with my senior hairstylist. Wanna check out
what the majority says before I make it permanent. What do you say?

Among songs I love to hear again and again. Kinda cute I think.

Movie: No idea la (anyone knows?)
Song: Ennai Tottu

A feminist?

Monday, January 7th, 2008

I believe women deserves to be treated much better than past and
present. That is my stand. Be it in the working environment, access to
latest technology, family establishment or society in general, I want
to see women to be treated as equal to men. No, I would never undermine
a man’s rights and ego. I know I will never succeed in that. All I want
is some sort of recognition to women.

I don’t want women to be
regarded only as a machine to provide sexual pleasure and to make
babies. I don’t want women to be treated more or less like a servant.
At the same time, I don’t believe in queen control, or bimbo act. I
hate it in fact. I want to see some sort of balance in responsibilities
borne by men and women.

It is not (only) men’s fault that some
women out there are being exploited. What saddens me is that there are
women out there taking advantage of the weaker ones! For example, this news (and also this)
where women in some parts of India being ‘recruited’ as surrogate
mothers for a handsome fees. They are ‘confined’ in a luxuries house,
well-taken care of and all they have to do is to hand over the baby to
the biological parents immediately after the delivery. They are renting
out their womb, and I believe
that they have been sort of brainwashed to accept this as a mere
transaction. Yes, surrogate pregnancy is not new but doing it as a
business??? After all, it is a woman doctor running this so called
‘clinic’. Isn’t this called exploitation of weaker women?

I may not be Eleanor of Aquitaine who believed in women’s superiority over men or
Celia
Sánchez who comprise a combat squad during the Cuban revolution or
Margaret Hilda Thatcher, the Iron Lady, but I am just being me.

I
am hoping for a world that gives equal rights to everyone, a world that
is free from sexual harassment, a world where domestic violence doesn’t
exist. If that means I am a feminist, let it be.
