A week in your life

Sunday, June 29th, 2008
  • Monday -
So-called blues. Usually identified with zombie-looking colleagues,
slight headache, low appetite, difficulty in giving attention to
instruction (especially if it comes from a superior/boss.

  • Tuesday
    - Productivity picks up. Colleagues begin to wish you good morning and
vice versa. Slowly started to complete yesterday’s tasks.

  • Wednesday - The peak. Activity at its full speed. Fantastic day for meetings and discussion. Undivided attention to work.

  • Thursday -  The productivity slows down to 60%. The "weekend symptoms" usually starts to manifest today.

  • Friday -
Unusually hyped at work. The only aim is to complete the week’s work by
4pm. Looks at the watch numerous times an hour and begins to
contemplate the weekend plans. Usually will disappear from the office
    compound by 4.30pm.

  • Saturday -
Wake up at 7am (instead of planned 10am) due to weekday habit of waking
up early for work. The day is filled with leisure activities - movie,
shopping, picnics, clubbing and the list goes on. Some may go up to 24
hours without sleep on this day.

  • Sunday
    - Wakes up around noon. The whole day will feel ‘moody’, ’slow’ and
‘lazy’- probably due to the hyped Saturday. Spends the day reading
    various newspaper, eating and sleeping.

The paranoids

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

We are paranoids.

Well, most of us are paranoids. While certain degree of caution is
needed for us to keeping on going and obviously to live in today’s
world, I don’t think its necessary of us to be suspicious of every
human being or every single thing we see.

When the a Gerakan member decided to take a job offer from a DAP-lead
state government, he came under the fire from his party. He was seen as
a person who betrayed his party but he only asked for them to see
beyond the party flag. He was chosen because he was the man for that
job and he was trusted even by an opponent party. But his own people
(so to speak) failed to see this and of course, eventually he resigned
from the party. In the end, his own party lost a credible person just
because they feel he is someone else’s payroll.

This is not only confined to politics but even to our daily affairs as well:

  • Imagine being suspicious of your mechanic.. did he actually fix the car brake properly?
  • Imagine being suspicious of your rival neighbor’s 5 year old daughter befriending your son.. what is this girl trying to do to my son?
  • Imagine being suspicious of the vegetable seller at the pasar malam.. did he spray excessive pesticides on these?
  • Imagine being suspicious of your MP whom you (and your entirely family) unanimously voted for… he is on a deal with the opposition?

I can go on and on with this list. But let me ask if you if such
paranoid thinking would give you a peace of mind? It won’t, and why
would we want to subject ourselves to such mental agony? At times, we
just have to trust people. Yes, we have to carefully analyze the
situation and be prepared with a Plan B. That’s all it takes.

Anyone can ask questions, but it takes a genuine person to answer it
truthfully. And when one does, it is only wise to accept it with a
little cautious.

Song: Pulveli Movie: Aasai

Brilliant song which brings you closer
to the nature. So beautifully captured and exactly what I need to watch
right now. Doesn’t matter if you can’t understand a word of Tamil,
Suvalakmi, the music and the scenes are enough to mesmerize you.

Sorry if I sound a little random today. Blurting out things as I feel. Have a good weekend everyone! :)

Twitter me

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

*This is not a paid post :P

I have been actively updating my Twitter lately. Its a great tool for me to keep up with what my other Twittermates (is there a word like this..I wonder)
are doing and at the same time updating them about my whereabouts as
well. Currently I have 30 followers and following 20 Twittermates.

My Twitter Page

For those who doesn’t know anything about it, a quick wiki about Twitter may help. Lot of information there. Here some of the highlights about this wonderful program:

  • a
free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to
send "updates" or "tweets"…to the Twitter web site, via the Twitter
web site, SMS, IM or application such as Twitterrific or Facebook.
  • Updates are displayed on the user’s profile page and instantly delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them.
  • …began as a research and development project inside San Francisco start-up company Obvious, LLC in March 2006.
  • .. Twitter announced on their blog that they recently created a version of Twitter for Japanese users.
  • The first Twitter security vulnerability was reported on April 7, 2007 by Nitesh Dhanjani.

Enough of the facts, just hover the link to my Twitter page and start stalking following me!

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

I am a Blogger-person and after 3+ years relying on blogspot, I have
grown to love it here. Of course Wp is more powerful, but for me
Blogger.com is more than enough.

Over the period, my blog has
seen numerous changes in her look. Usually I surf around for new
templates and give it a fresh look before applying it here. I never
used a blog template as it is but normally used it as a basis. I have
seen various brilliant templates and here I am sharing my top 10

One of the most gorgeous set of costume jewellery that I own.

Nostalgic Friday 43: how nostalgic this can be?

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Finally I got the photos from the organizers! :) You may want to
read my previous post about the award I received from the Society HERE. Okie okie.. nothing much there except for a photo, which summarised the whole thing.

Maybe now I can brag
elaborate a bit about it. It was an award for the Best Postgraduate
Student@Postgrad Prize in the field of nutrition given by the Nutrition
Society of Malaysia. Its an annual thingy and each year max 3 master
graduates and max 3 PhD graduates will be selected nationwide for the
award. This year, 3 master graduates and only 1 PhD graduate were
selected. The award comes with a certificate and some handy cash prize
as well :D

NSM best postgrad award
Award was given by the Founder of NSM - Dr Choong. Current President, Dr Tee is at the far left.

NSM best postgrad award
Proud moment to be cherished for a very long time *grins*

Maybe I should have acted rude and said ‘no, i don’t want an award which single just nutritionists from the rest of the world’.
Some gestures are meant to be accepted with pride, and I feel honoured
to walk up that stage for the second time (first was for my BSc) in my
career. Oh boy, I’ll sleep well tonite.

Besides, my little sister has revived her blog again. Hopefully it will last this time *grins again* This week’s Nostalgic Friday is dedicated to her  and her "she-shines":

Venillave with a little twist :)

Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend!

Being judged

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

When
you publish a blog post, post a picture in Flickr or start a Facebook
account, you are subjecting yourself to be known to 6+B people out
there. The is no such thing as ‘maintaining’ a low profile when you
have snaps and your life experience pasted here. You are known. Face
it. And when you willingly put yourself on the limelight and of course,
people will start judging you from that day onwards. We are vulnerable
in cyberworld.

Yea, this is a personal space of us, the
bloggers. We are entitled to do whatever we want here without being
questioned. BUT unlike our own home, we are not confined to 4 walls.
Your neighbours can have ‘full view’ of whatever you are doing in your
cyberspace. When that happens, couldn’t it be more courteous to be
humble?

If you think you are entitled to an opinion of your own
(which is true). So does Mak Minah who has a pisang goreng stall down
the street. So does your distant cousin who secretly reads about your
night out with boyfriends. So does your greatest rival of the
blogworld. So does the so-called obsessive Flickr fan of yours. The key
is to be yourself without hurting other human beings.

Guess that is not too much to ask.

*
a post out of my frustration reading posts just published to condemn
others without facts, which I think is a wastage of space.

Shopping spree in GISF 2008

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

I had a mega-shopping spree last Saturday. Mega not because I bought
lot of stuff but also I did it all in a record time of 2 hours (*wink
wink)! It was Global Indian Shopping Festival (GISF) time again but I
have no pictures to share this time. You may want to check out the
previous post on GISF.

Now
that I have started to live in ‘budget’ due to the fact that I have a
Kancil to feed, let me go through stuffs that I bought and the price:
(P/S:
‘budget’ here refers to lower amount to be spent on shopping and other
luxury spending. The use of the term ‘budget’ may vary according
individuals )

  • 1 white-turquoise sequined saree - RM95
  • 3 kurti tops for aunt - RM 30
  • 1 kurti top for me - RM10
  • 2 kurti tops for sis - RM20
  • tit-bits - RM10
  • indian sweets - RM14
  • 3 sequined/embroidered bags -RM65

So, in total = RM244 + RM3 (parking ticket).

But the satisfaction that I get = priceless!! :P
